Grief Tending: When Palestine is a Portal
Since October 7th 2023 and the upsurge in the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, the desire to be informed and educated about the Palestine/Israel “conflict” has surged. Podcasts, documentaries and niche media outlets have proliferated to meet this demand and the realities in Gaza have been shared unmediated, live from people on the ground. This unfiltered exposure to the unimaginable has caused for many a sort of tear in the fabric of consensus reality. Mainstream narratives have been upended, some hearts have cracked open, and some have shattered; there is much to grieve.
Watching the films and attending other events throughout Bristol Palestine Film Festival, may evoke strong feelings as you encounter the stories of suffering, injustice and systematic oppression alongside stories of resilience, courage and beauty.
Tending to our feelings together creates a space where feelings can flow, allowing them to become a force for healing, connection and awakening to deeper truth, rather than becoming stuck and a drain on our energy for life.
On 14th December – Bristol Palestine Film Festival is offering an online gathering for those who wish to tend to their grief. An experienced team of facilitators will offer tried and tested practices to give the many different feelings of grief a welcome – anger and outrage as well as sorrow, fear, numbness, and much more. Here is a space which acknowledges we are all impacted, and we can all offer support to witness each other.
The four hour online Grief Tending has space for up to 40 people. Starting together, we will then spend some time in smaller groups to give more time for each person who chooses to share, to be heard.
The facilitation team have years of experience of holding a variety of grief spaces, and are on a continuing journey to understand the particular sensitivities surrounding themes encountered in Bristol Palestine Film Festival.
