Eid

Dir: The Saaheb Collective various 2011 8mins subtitled

Eid is a Palestinian Bedouin living under Israeli occupation. Ever since he can remember, Eid has picked up scrap materials and turned them into art. By following Eid’s creative process, this film celebrates the optimism and integrity which enables him to transform the machinery of occupation into an artistic expression of individuality and hope.

Amreeka

Dir: Chieren Dabis USA/Canada 2009 96mins

Cherien Dabis’s auspicious debut chronicles the adventures of Muna, a single mother who leaves the West Bank with Fadi, her teenage son, with dreams of the future in the promised land of small town Illinois. As her son navigates high school hallways the way he used to move through military checkpoints, the indomitable Muna scrambles together a new life cooking up falafel burgers at the local White Castle. Dabis weaves an abundance of humour into this tale of struggle, displacement, and nostalgia and draws an absorbing performance from actress Nisreen Faour as Muna, who stands at the heart of this tale.
